I Feel Good (Good Title, Eh?)
It is almost a sure thing to write a “good” blog post when it is titled something like “I feel good”. At least in terms of it being a cathartic, online journal, write for the sake of feeling better-type of blog post.
What this is, basically, is intentional writing. I have sworn by this method of writing since 2006 when I started my first blog that October (Oct. 16, 2006, I believe). Of course at the time I didn’t know what I was doing was actually called “intentional writing” at the time. I didn’t hear the term until a (somewhat bad) Freshman year of college in 2009 at Jefferson College in Hillsboro, MO. And I do not recall the professor’s name, but she was very nice and wise and talked a lot about intentional writing during the semester.
What it is, is this:
When you feel motivated, or even unmotivated, or however you feel – when you want to write something, you sit down and open the text editor of your choice, put your fingers on the keyboard, and just start writing. It can be about anything or any subject. It can even be complete gibberish. But do this once (at least once) a day, and you will see you writing skills improve when you DO have something important / urgent to profess to the world.
I basically view it as 60/120’s that we did when I was in the United States Army. What a 60/120 is, is you run as FAST as you can for 60 seconds, and then slowly walk and recuperate for 120 seconds after that. Then repeat. That method alone improved my run times greatly and I passed every PT (Physical Training) test ever since I started them.
::swoons:: ahhh the Army, what a lost soul I was!
Anyway, try the intentional writing method the next time you want to write something. Even if it is a small voice in the back of your head saying “write!” – sit down and do it. :)
